Minerva Restaurant - Varaždinske Toplice

A spa paradise Minerva

Varaždinske Toplice is the oldest Croatian thermal spa, and its history stretches back to when the ancient Romans first took advantage of its healing thermal waters.

The development of the modern sanatorium and spa began in the early 19th century with the construction of Lovrina kupelj and Konstatinov dom, whose famous café, dance hall, and promenade were central places in the town’s social life. The construction of the elite hotel Josipova kupelj followed. Varaždinske Toplice stood shoulder to shoulder with the top spas in Europe. Unforturnately, the complex was damaged in World War II, and the sanatorium buildings were ransacked... It became a tourist destination once more in the 1970’s, when the Minerva complex was built. The restaurant that bears the same name prepares traditional meals built on a foundation of the centuries of tradition of Varaždinske Toplice’s taverns no. 1, no. 2, and no. 3, as well as on records from some of the numerous gala events held there, whose menus included such delicacies as steak tartare and kupališna (spa) torte.
